How to play Beach Ultimate in Canada
What is Beach Ultimate?
Beach Ultimate is a game played 5 on 5 (but feel free to play 4 on 4, or 3 on 3 depending on your available field size), in which teams score by driving a Frisbee into an opponent's endzone. Players can move anywhere on the playing field (no offsides!), except for the player holding the Frisbee. The player with the disc in hand can only pivot on one foot until they throw the disc; a team retains possession by catching the disc. Possession is lost when the disc is dropped, a team scores, or the disc goes out of bounds; the other team gains possession from the exact position on the field their opponent lost possession.
A Beach Ultimate field is similar to American Football or Rugby in that it is made up of a playing field with an endzone on each side. Official Beach Ultimate uses fields that are 75m x 25 m (including two 15m endzones) but feel free to adjust the dimensions according to your available space and the number of players.
Games are either timed, with the team that scores the most in 45 minutes wins, or determined by the first team to 13 points wins. Whichever you choose just make sure all players are on the same page.
What do I need to play Beach Ultimate?
Now that you know how to play, you will need to know what to bring. The three things that you will need for every game are:
People to play with
A space to play
Personally, we prefer playing in the sand, but grass is an excellent option as well. Sports pylons or cones are great for outlining the field area but won’t prevent you from playing if you don’t have them.

Beach Ultimate is easy to learn and super adaptable based on the number of players, space, or skillset. It can be either high-paced and intense, or slower and steady depending on what you want out of the game. You just need to grab some friends and a Frisbee and head to your local beach!
